Expanding Impact: Haller Farmers App Now in French

At the Haller Foundation, we believe partnership is essential for effective climate action. Over the last year, our collaboration with La Maison d’Artemisia has expanded sustainable farming access by making the Haller Farmers App fully available in French, incorporating life-saving knowledge on Artemisia annua and afra cultivation—a critical resource for malaria prevention. The app, which is free to download on Google Play and the App Store can now serve more farmers across Francophone Africa and globally, delivering tried-and-tested resources developed by Dr Haller and our foundation over two decades.

Leveraging Global Networks

La Maison d’Artemisia operates over 130 “Artemisia Houses” worldwide, promoting the medicinal use of plants to combat malaria and other diseases. Their trusted network provides the Haller Farmers App direct access to rural communities that often lack exposure to digital tools. This partnership combines our agricultural expertise with La Maison d’Artemisia’s experience in natural health solutions, creating a valuable digital archive of plant research and cultivation techniques, while enhancing community knowledge-sharing.

More than one-third of Africa’s population speaks French, many of whom live in West and Central Africa. In these regions, agriculture provides up to 80% of the food supply and employs over 60% of the workforce. Now, an additional 200 million smallholder farmers can access expert farming knowledge and practical resources tailored to their unique environmental challenges.

Engaging Youth Through Technology

The app also addresses the critical need to engage youth in agriculture. Africa has the world’s fastest-growing youth population, but without engaging resources, many young people are drawn away from agriculture. Designed with young farmers in mind, the app fosters community discussions, leadership opportunities, and a vision of agriculture as a sustainable and rewarding career.

Combining indigenous knowledge with accessible tech, this app demonstrates how partnerships and digital tools can help address pressing issues around climate resilience and food security. As we celebrate 20 years of climate action, this app is a testament to how ecology and economy can work together to create resilient communities.

The Haller Farmers App remains free, available offline, and optimised for low-data conditions and older phone models. We encourage you to download the app, explore our collaboration with La Maison d’Artemisia, and share it within your networks.
